From September 16 to 18, the AI for Health Global Initiative 2026 annual meeting opened in Hangzhou, initiated by the World Health Organization, the International Telecommunication Union and the World Intellectual Property Organization, and hosted by the National Health Commission's health development research center and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.
As of August, 19 smart applications had been deployed across grassroots medical and health institutions nationwide. The meeting focused on international coordination of AI medical applications and governance, exploring standardized pathways for AI in primary care and health management.
The sitting of this global health-AI gathering in China highlights the scale of the country's AI-in-medicine deployment and the growing international attention on its governance practices.
