On September 17, GAC Group announced it is planning to acquire part of the equity in FAW's joint-venture vehicle subsidiary, marking a move by domestic automakers to optimize existing resources and resolve redundant competition between northern and southern JVs.
The same day, Buick's Zhijing (Electra) NEV rolled out its 150,000th vehicle. Launched only 16 months ago, the brand has achieved scaled volume with an average transaction price of 257,000 yuan—proof that JV new energy is "a question of capability, not identity," per Cui Dongshu.
Industry experts said the success or failure of JV new energy hinges on straightening out mechanisms and choosing the right path rather than on any inherent identity limitation. The combination of one restructuring and one volume milestone signals that domestic joint ventures have moved past simple product importation into a deep transformation cycle of system restructuring.
