China's power and storage battery sales reached 223.1 GWh in August, up 20.5% month-on-month and 65.9% year-on-year, according to the China Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance.
Of the total, power batteries accounted for 146.8 GWh (65.8% of the total), up 13.7% month-on-month and 48.5% year-on-year. Storage batteries reached 76.3 GWh (34.2% of the total), up 36.0% month-on-month and 114.3% year-on-year.
In the first eight months of 2026, cumulative power and storage battery sales reached 1,387.7 GWh, up 50.7% year-on-year. Power batteries totalled 937.2 GWh (67.5%) and storage batteries 450.5 GWh (32.5%).
Exports remained strong: combined August exports of power and storage batteries reached 42.4 GWh, up 20.4% month-on-month and 87.5% year-on-year, accounting for 19.0% of the month's sales. Storage battery exports jumped 134.2% year-on-year to 17.7 GWh, while power battery exports rose 64.0% to 24.7 GWh.
Cumulative exports for January–August reached 259.0 GWh, up 49.6% year-on-year, underscoring the growing role of batteries as a pillar of China's foreign trade.
