The move follows US pressure - including warnings of semiconductor tariffs for companies that do not manufacture chips domestically - and an agreement with Taiwan to expand investment in exchange for tariff relief. Taiwan is positioning its semiconductor capacity as both an industrial advantage and a diplomatic asset.
