President Xi Jinping, in his address at the opening of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, called for "people-centered, upward and good" AI development and for "comprehensively promoting AI technology innovation, industrial development and scenario applications."
Commentary in People's Daily on September 8 said China's "intelligent manufacturing" has become a new calling card of Chinese modernization. New-generation open-source models like Kimi K3, smart connected vehicles entering millions of households, and accelerating humanoid robots embody open-source, open and shared AI for the benefit of more people.
The commentary highlighted four bright spots of "China's intelligent manufacturing": people-oriented, technology-driven innovation, industrial development, and scenario applications. In workshops, AI robotic arms flexibly adapt to complex processing scenarios; in traffic flows, smart connected vehicles navigate freely; in farmlands, smart agricultural machinery secures grain harvests.
The commentary concludes that AI is becoming a "key variable" turning into a "strong increment" empowering China's high-quality growth.
