China's power battery industry continued strong growth in the first seven months of 2026, with cumulative sales reaching 790.4 GWh, up 37.1 percent year on year, according to data released on September 6, 2026.
Qu Guochun, Director of the Equipment Industry Development Center under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said six of the world's top ten battery makers by installed capacity are now Chinese companies, accounting for more than 70 percent of the global market, an increase of 3 percentage points over the previous year.
On September 3, the MIIT also confirmed at the 2026 World Power Battery Conference that China will continue to refine its power battery governance system, improve technical standards, testing and certification standards, and implement new policies on battery recycling to prevent disorderly expansion and non-rational competition, while promoting high-quality pricing and a fair competitive environment.
Industry observers said the data reflects that domestic battery producers continue to consolidate their global competitive advantage, providing solid support for new energy vehicle development worldwide.
