A September 6, 2026 episode of CCTV's "Focus Interview" examined how AI-enabled robots are rapidly transitioning from demonstration to scalable commercial deployment across multiple sectors in China.
The report noted that the World Robot Conference and the World Humanoid Robot Games, both held recently in Beijing, showcased dramatic advances in real-world task capability. At the humanoid robot games, the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center's "Tiangong" robot broke records in the 100-meter sprint, posting 9.39 seconds in the prelims and 8.64 seconds in the final, both faster than the human world record.
Zhao Wen, a humanoid control algorithm engineer at the center, said improvements came from across-the-board upgrades in robot algorithms, software, and hardware rather than any single breakthrough, reflecting overall industrial progress.
According to the China Electronics Society, China's humanoid robot shipments in the first half of 2026 exceeded 40,000 units, accounting for 97 percent of global shipments. Six embodied intelligence companies have reached valuations of more than 20 billion yuan each. Cao Xu, Vice President of Zhiyuan's general business division, said this year's notable breakthrough is the integration of perception and control technologies for real-time, millisecond-level decision making.
