The 2026 Xiamen Sci-Tech Industry and Securities Development Conference was held on September 6 in Xiamen, Fujian Province, attracting more than 240 listed companies, securities firms, and investment institutions.
Li Meng, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, said artificial intelligence will become the dominant technology of the next 20 years, triggering productivity and production-relation transformations. He noted that "physical AI" is the next high ground for AI and will become the main line of AI's integration with the real economy.
Li Jing, Chief Strategy Officer at Stepfun, said AI has officially entered the agent era. The technological focus has shifted from human-machine chat interaction to autonomous task execution, with full-stack technical capability becoming the core barrier for foundation model companies. He revealed that by June 2026, Codex token consumption far exceeded pure chat interaction models, with agent autonomous token usage reaching nearly five times human operation scale.
Ren Feng, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-CEO of Insilico Medicine, said the company used its self-developed algorithm platform to compress target discovery to pre-clinical candidate compound selection in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis to just 18 months at USD 2.6 million, compared with the traditional 4.5 years and tens of millions of dollars.
