A September 6, 2026 roundup says semi-solid batteries are moving from concept to volume production in September, with 2026 widely seen as the mass-production year for the technology and full-solid-state still a 2027-and-later prospect.
Dongfeng announced that its oxide-polymer composite semi-solid battery, with an energy density of 350 Wh/kg, enters mass production in September, debuting on the eπ007 with a CLTC range beyond 1,000 km, 4C ultra-fast charging, over 72% capacity retention at minus 30°C, and a presale price of 150,000-200,000 yuan - bringing semi-solid tech into the mainstream family-car price band for the first time.
Other carmakers are following: GAC's 400 Wh/kg quasi-solid-state pack is planned for small-batch installation on its premium Trumpchi Haobo brand this year; SAIC MG has a 100,000-yuan-class semi-solid model; CATL's condensed (high-end semi-solid) battery at 360 Wh/kg delivers in the third quarter; and NIO's ET9 will get a 150 kWh semi-solid pack in the fourth quarter with over 1,200 km CLTC range. Full-solid-state, by contrast, still carries a production cost more than four times that of liquid batteries, with a 1 yuan per Wh scale threshold still ahead.
