Google Debuts Gemini 3.8 Flash, Its Third Flash Model in Six Weeks

Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Flash and a cybersecurity-focused Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber on September 2, calling them its strongest reasoning and coding models yet. The release, coming just three weeks after Gemini 3.7 Flash, is the third Flash-series update in six weeks and targets long-horizon software engineering and autonomous agents. In testing, 3.8 Flash topped 8 of 14 benchmarks, surpassing Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol, with Chrome security teams finding its generated patches were 2.6 times more numerous than those of a larger commercial model. Google also launched its Fairwind program, giving more than 650 government and critical infrastructure organizations priority access to cybersecurity AI, with pricing aligned to 3.7 Flash.
