Europe's Battery-Electric Car Market Share Passes 25% in July

Battery-electric vehicles accounted for 25.7% of new car registrations across 16 major European markets in July 2026, with 224,266 BEVs registered during the month—a 13.6% increase compared with July 2025. Country-level data shows France reaching a 35% BEV market share and Germany recording 29.3%, while Denmark leads at 80.1% and Finland at 52.6%. EU EV sales grew 40.5% in the first half of 2026 versus the same period last year, driven by higher fuel prices, government incentives, and an expanding selection of affordable electric models. Renault noted that over half of its UK orders in July were electric, with the Renault 5 becoming Britain's best-selling EV for the month.
