LONDON — Jaguar has revealed the uncamouflaged interior of its Type 01, a four-seat grand tourer that anchors the British luxury marque's reinvention as an all-electric brand. The full interior debut precedes the vehicle's global unveiling at the New York Auto Show on October 6, with the car appearing in camouflage at Monterey Car Week earlier this month. The Type 01 interior is defined by a central spine that divides the cabin into four individual single-seat compartments — a structural and aesthetic choice that abandons the conventional bench or three-seat layout of luxury GTs. The dashboard carries only a driver display and a small central touchscreen, stripped of the elaborate screens and control surfaces that characterize rivals from Bentley, Porsche and Mercedes-Maybach. Materials include travertine stone surfaces and artisan textiles, signaling a deliberate departure from the leather-and-wood tradition of Jaguar's combustion-era models. Like the Polestar 4, the Type 01 has no rear window, replacing it with a digital camera feed displayed on a screen. The absence of a conventional rear windshield is a structural choice that enables a more aerodynamic fastback silhouette — a trade-off that Jaguar clearly judges acceptable for its target buyer. Jaguar's Type 01 will be followed by a second model, the Type 02, in 2027 and a third, the Type 03, in 2028 — forming the backbone of a three-model electric lineup that the brand says will carry it through the 2030s. The brand has described its electric transformation as a full reset, abandoning the mass-market volumes of its previous XE, XF and F-Type lines to focus on a narrower, higher-margin electric luxury positioning. The strategy is high-risk: Jaguar's global sales volumes have fallen significantly from their peak, and a premium-only electric lineup will further constrain total unit volumes. The Type 01's reception at its New York debut will be an early signal of whether the brand's audacious reinvention can find an audience.
