Tesla has announced that it will hold the Cybercab launch event on September 3, 2026, in Austin, Texas. The Cybercab is Tesla's purpose-built vehicle for full self-driving, designed without a steering wheel or pedals.
The Cybercab features a two-door coupe body with gull-wing doors and design elements referencing the Cybertruck. It relies entirely on Tesla's full self-driving software system. Production began in North America in April 2026, and road testing has been conducted in multiple US cities including Austin since June.
Because the Cybercab has no steering wheel or brake pedals, human drivers cannot take over in case of a system issue. Tesla stated that remote operators can intervene in emergency situations.
Tesla currently operates its robotaxi service primarily with Model Y vehicles. In the company's Q2 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk said the same V15 model that powers Model Y and other platforms will also be used for Cybercab. He noted that passengers who do not need to focus on driving can use in-car time for conference calls, watching movies, or other activities, which is why the Cybercab is designed with a large screen.
The Cybercab has a target price below 30,000 US dollars and will connect to Tesla's robotaxi service. Nevada has already approved 5,000 driverless vehicles for operation. Tesla's stock has risen approximately 5 percent over the past week, marking three consecutive weeks of gains.
