Chinese AI company MiniMax has open-sourced its H3 model, which climbed to the top of the Hugging Face trending list within just three days of release, with more than 100 enterprises achieving 'Day 0' integration, according to Science and Technology Daily.
The model extends China's open-source wave into the video-generation arena, topping multiple categories on the crowdsourced evaluation platform Design Arena. Emad Mostaque, founder of Stable Diffusion, publicly paid tribute to MiniMax.
The move is part of a broader trend: DeepSeek, Kimi (Moonshot AI) and Alibaba's Qwen series have also released and open-sourced frontier models, accelerating iteration and ecosystem building through open weights.
Data cited by the report shows downloads of Chinese open-source models now account for 41% of the global total - ranking first in the world - and that as many as 80% of U.S. AI startups use Chinese open-source models in their fundraising pitches.
