Apple introduced the M6 and M5 Ultra chips on August 29, targeting high-performance AI workloads. The M6, featured in a new Mac mini, is Apple's first 2nm chip with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU carrying Neural Accelerators, a dual 16-core Neural Engine, and up to 32GB of unified memory at 170GB/s. The M5 Ultra in the new Mac Studio is Apple's first quad-die M-series processor, combining two dual-die M5 Max chips over UltraFusion at more than 4.4TB/s, offering up to 36 CPU cores, 80 GPU cores, 512GB of unified memory, and 1.2TB/s bandwidth. The launch signals Apple's deepening investment in on-device AI compute amid the industry-wide AI hardware race.
