More than 100 technology and financial services organizations, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and security vendors CrowdStrike, Okta, and Fortinet, signed a public letter on August 27 calling for a unified global framework to defend against AI-driven cyberattacks. The letter warns that there is only a "limited window" to strengthen cyber defenses as AI-powered attacks become more sophisticated and widespread, putting hospitals, water treatment plants, and internet infrastructure at risk. It outlines four principles: acknowledging that current security is insufficient, enabling more defenders to use AI, coordinating collective responses, and ensuring responsible model access—urging governments to fund and coordinate critical infrastructure protection.
