Anthropic announced on August 26 a six-year, approximately $45 billion cloud computing deal with UK AI infrastructure company Nscale. The agreement involves renting about 460 megawatts of compute capacity at an Nscale data center under development in West Virginia. The facility will run NVIDIA's Vera Rubin chips and is expected to come online by the end of 2027. This mega-scale commitment reflects Anthropic's response to demand growth that has strained Claude's reliability and performance, demonstrating how frontier AI labs are locking in physical infrastructure capacity years in advance.
