Indonesia has taken charge of its AI future with the launch of the country's first university-based AI technology center, NVIDIA announced on 14 August 2026. The UGM-Indosat-NVIDIA AI Technology Center was opened by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, NVIDIA and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
The center is designed to develop local AI talent and support Indonesian-language models and applications, giving students and researchers access to accelerated computing and NVIDIA's software stacks for building and deploying artificial intelligence.
The partnership reflects a broader push across Southeast Asia to build domestic AI capacity rather than rely solely on imported tools. By anchoring the effort in a leading public university, the initiative aims to spread AI skills across Indonesia's wider research and startup ecosystem.
NVIDIA said the project is part of its ongoing work with local AI communities and open-source models to make capable, locally relevant AI easier to build and run.
