Europe's EV Market Rebounds: France +126.7%, UK +49% in July

Europe's battery-electric vehicle market showed a sharp recovery in July 2026. France recorded 44,378 BEV registrations, up 126.7% year-on-year and equal to a 35% share of the new-car market; cumulative French BEV share for January–July reached 29%. The UK posted 43,547 BEV registrations (+49%), a 27.4% share, with its YTD BEV mix at 25.3%. Across the EU, H1 BEV registrations hit 1,220,890 (20.7% share); June registrations across the wider European region rose 51%. Analysts attribute the rebound to France's social-leasing scheme and eco-bonuses, the UK's zero-emission sales mandate, and higher fuel costs that improved EVs' running-cost advantage.
