Iran's Foreign Minister Says Resistance Shattered US Hopes of 'Unconditional Surrender

   2026-08-12 The Paper / Bloombergadmin30

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on August 11 that no one believed Iran could withstand pressure from the United States, Israel, and other Western countries, but Tehran did not bow. He said Iran's resistance broke the US fantasy of forcing Iran's "unconditional surrender" at the start of the war.

Araghchi noted that just 20 days into the conflict, the United States began pleading for negotiations. Pakistan's Defense Minister separately said the US and Iran are close to "some sort of an arrangement" to end the five-month war.

Trump, in an interview, described three strategies toward Iran: monitoring its deteriorating situation, striking it hard, or applying economic pressure. He said the US controls large sums of Iranian funds and assets.
