Iran Sets Conditions for Reopening Strait of Hormuz, Demands US End Blockade and Compensate

   2026-08-11 CBS News / Agence France-Pressadmin30

Iran's Supreme National Security Council declared that the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until the United States corrects its behavior. The council's secretary outlined demands including a permanent end to military actions against Iran and its regional allies, lifting of the naval blockade, withdrawal of US military forces, complete compensation for war damage, lifting of sanctions, and unconditional release of frozen assets.

Meanwhile, Oman confirmed it is continuing mediation talks with Iran over safe passage arrangements for commercial vessels, describing the negotiations as proceeding in a positive and constructive atmosphere. Iran's foreign minister cautioned that the Oman talks address navigation arrangements only and do not signal a full reopening of the strait.

The IRGC emphasized that the strait's opening has its own mechanism separate from the Iran-Oman negotiations. Iran also launched a missile strike on an oil tanker belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company while it was transiting the strait, though no injuries were reported.
