Yiwu's DIY handcraft exports are booming on TikTok's US site. A 20-centimeter pearl-sticker material pack that costs only a few yuan to wholesale retails at 16 to 39 US dollars in the American market. After launching mid-year, one seller moved 8,797 orders in just seven days, with sales approaching 1 million yuan.
The viral loop is powered by short video: a clip of just over ten seconds showing pearls being stuck onto a canvas, edited with AI tools, posted by an account with only about a thousand followers, drew 2.4 million views and converted more than 1,000 orders.
Merchants at Yiwu's international trade city describe the shift as moving from selling finished products to selling the process. One seller focuses exclusively on Halloween-themed pearl sticker material packs, while another turned a 'Xinjiang little lamb' into a DIY kit with an undecorated lamb figure and a flower hat made of Atlas silk, shipping about 10,000 sets a day that sell out on arrival.
The underlying logic is straightforward: consumers are buying stress relief, a healing experience and the fun of matching colors and cultures, not the picture itself. The supply chain sits in Yiwu, the content is produced with AI, and the logistics ride cross-border networks. Veterans warn, however, that the real profit lies in the combination of semi-finished kits, emotional value and short-video contrast effects, not in simply reselling wholesale goods without scene packaging and seasonal timing.
