AI cloud provider Lambda is reportedly raising up to $4 billion at a $14.5 billion pre-money valuation, led by Blackstone and Coatue, in what would be its final private round ahead of a planned 2027 IPO.
The company, backed by Nvidia, rents out GPU capacity to customers training and running AI models. Its unfilled order backlog reportedly tripled to roughly $50 billion between June and September, a sign of just how tight GPU capacity remains across the industry.
The size of both the round and the backlog underscores a simple reality of the AI boom: demand for compute continues to outstrip supply, and the intermediaries that control access to chips are capturing enormous value.
If the round closes as reported, Lambda would be one of the most valuable private infrastructure companies in the AI stack, and its IPO would give public investors a direct line into the picks-and-shovels layer of the artificial intelligence economy.
