Party supplies may look like a niche segment within Yiwu's vast small-commodity export system, but the little aluminum foil balloons and themed party kits shipped from Yiwu International Trade City stalls support a global market worth some 100 billion yuan, according to a Phoenix Finance report carried by 10jqka on October 12.
Yiwu's position as a core global supplier of party goods rests not on any single company but on a complete industrial cluster — from upstream film and ink materials to printing, die-cutting, and edge-sealing, plus logistics, customs declaration, and freight forwarding services. A single order can complete every step from design to shipment locally, an efficiency and cost advantage that is hard to replicate elsewhere.
The report describes three stages in the sector's globalization. The first was OEM manufacturing for overseas brands — large orders but thin profits and weak bargaining power. The second came with the rise of cross-border e-commerce, as small-batch, multi-style, fast-iteration demand pushed makers from single production to full-category supply, offering themed balloon sets, scenario decorations, customization, private labeling, and export documentation. Lanfei Toys Store (Lanfei Party) in Zone 1 of Yiwu International Trade City is a typical representative, serving global customers with flexible supply-chain services and evolving from "selling products" to "selling solutions."
In the third stage, leading manufacturers are building their own brands and online international channels, moving up the value chain. New opportunities are also emerging from AI-powered generative search and cross-border livestreaming as customer-acquisition channels, even as rising global demands for compliance, quality, and environmental standards make pure price competition unsustainable.
