Changzhou Jintan Lanling Printing has long been devoted to the research and promotion of the 'modern industrialisation of Xuan-paper book art'. Concretely, we use modern technology to bring the design and production of traditional Xuan paper and Xuan-paper books into the modern era, creating a new industry. We named this technical system the 'Xuan-Paper Digital Watermark Full-Process Technology'. This trip to Taiwan was to demonstrate and introduce this technology to Taiwanese publishing and art professionals. Attending the Cross-Strait Book Fair and the mainland publishing delegation, with less than a month's notice, we were unsure what to expect; but the two-day exhibition brought many insights and strengthened our confidence in industrialising Xuan-paper book art. Taiwanese cultural figures and the public showed warm friendliness and a deep love for traditional Chinese culture; our ink-wash Xuan-paper exhibits naturally resonated with them. Mr. Shen Rongyu of the Taiwan Cross-Strait Chinese-Language Publishing & Logistics Association, operator of Taiwan's largest simplified-Chinese and thread-bound bookstore, upon learning that Xuan-paper digital ink-wash printing is closer to tradition than offset and has no minimum print run, reached a cooperation intent on the spot. The Taiwan Calligraphy Art Foundation, whose stalls hold many calligraphy books but none in Xuan paper, also initialled a long-term cooperation. Because Xuan-paper digital ink-wash printing requires digital files, we discussed with Taiwanese partners how to replicate and reproduce rare ancient documents before they are sealed away for preservation. Companies such as Taiwan Hanshen Digital Books and Wanshi International showed strong interest. The exchange also built a platform for mainland publishers to learn from one another.
