With smart-bus construction advancing across China's major cities, the goal of improving citizens' travel experience and easing mobility difficulties is gradually being realized. A smart public-transport system comprises both hardware - such as new buses equipped with GPS devices - and software such as arrival voice announcements. At the same time, replacing traditional bus stop signs has become a trend, and large numbers of smart electronic bus stop signs have been procured and installed for public use.
Unlike ordinary signs, an electronic bus stop sign is fitted with one or more HD LCD screens and an embedded smart chip, giving it intelligent display capabilities. But it is far more than a display: it can integrate air-conditioning, a core chip, a monitoring system, and various sensors and probes, making it a comprehensive intelligent system of great significance to the city's future development.
Primarily it shows stop information. Connected to the internet via underground fibre, it delivers weather, vehicle and arrival information, plus video commercials and clips for an enjoyable wait. When a bus is approaching it gives a voice announcement and even offers USB ports for charging mobile devices, turning the wait for a bus into something convenient and entertaining.
