1) Powder coatings need dedicated electrostatic spraying and must be baked at high temperature to cure, so they cannot be used on heat-sensitive substrates like rubber and plastic, nor on thick or bulky items that cannot be baked. Single-coat is thick, making thin films hard; high equipment cost, high energy use, material waste, troublesome color change, no touch-up.
2) Electrocoat (electrophoretic coating) requires electricity and conductive workpieces; unsuitable for mixed metals with different conductivity or heat-sensitive items; small-batch and large equipment impractical; performance varies by substrate; needs strong technical support and costs far more than water-based coatings.
3) High-solid coatings have solid content (volume) above 70% when sprayed - lower solvent than ordinary solvent-based, still oil-based, less eco than water-based; higher process requirements and overall cost.
