Water-based industrial paint has fairly strict requirements for the temperature and humidity of the application environment, as follows:
Temperature requirements:
- Suitable temperature: generally 5-35 deg C. Within this range the paint's film-forming performance is good, allowing normal drying and curing into a uniform, dense film. At around 20 deg C both drying speed and film quality reach an ideal state.
- Too low: below 5 deg C, water evaporation slows significantly, drying time extends, and freezing may occur, preventing normal film formation and causing sagging, bubbling and cracking. Low temperature also raises viscosity and application difficulty and may cause poor atomization during spraying.
- Too high: above 35 deg C, water evaporates too fast, causing rapid surface drying, orange peel, pinholes, and possibly degradation of film-forming substances.
Humidity requirements:
- Suitable humidity: relative humidity 40%-80%. At around 60% the drying and curing process is relatively stable.
- Too high: above 80%, air moisture suppresses water evaporation from the paint, greatly extending drying time, possibly leaving the film uncured, attracting dust, and causing whitening or alkali efflorescence.
- Too low: below 40%, the environment is too dry and water evaporates too fast, causing the paint to dry before it can level, leading to runs and brush marks and affecting adhesion and flexibility.
