Water-based anti-corrosion paint is gaining share in heavy-duty anti-corrosion - infrastructure, oil/gas and power, industrial tanks, ships and chemicals. Practice shows water-based industrial anti-corrosion paint protects steel even under extreme conditions; because water is the main solvent it is also used for cleaning and dilution with almost no solvent odor, and lowers user cost through fast drying, low flammability, indoor ventilation and single-coat systems. Application background: many petrochemical steel tanks and equipment now choose healthy, eco-friendly water-based paint, whose influence in petrochemicals and steel structures keeps growing. Petrochemical anti-corrosion has three water-based product groups: special (tank interior conductive-static paint, oil-resistant insulating paint, exterior insulation anti-corrosion paint), long-term (modified acrylic and classic zinc-rich primer + micaceous iron intermediate + polyurethane/fluorocarbon topcoat, 6-10 year protection for tank exteriors, pipelines, equipment), and ordinary (acrylic or alkyd anti-corrosion, under 4 years). Crude-oil tanks use oil-resistant insulating paint except the floating-roof interior; product tanks use oil-resistant conductive-static paint. Modified acrylic, modified with inorganic nano-particles and silicone segments, offers better weather resistance and sealing than ordinary acrylic. Water-based anti-corrosion paints include water-based acrylic (epoxy-modified acrylic resin) and water-based epoxy (waterborne epoxy with water).
