Water-based industrial paints are divided by anti-corrosion performance into standard anti-rust paint and heavy-duty anti-corrosion paint. Both protect against corrosion, yet they differ greatly in real use. Standard water-based anti-rust paints are mostly single-component, giving only basic protection with a shorter service life; they are typically used on machinery, outdoor fences and barriers. Heavy-duty water-based industrial paints are mostly two-component or modified systems applied to large steel structures where application is difficult and the environment is harsh, with a protection period that can reach up to 10 years. A standard system is simple - usually primer plus topcoat, sometimes topcoat only - while a heavy-duty system needs a complex primer + intermediate + topcoat scheme applied in 2-3 passes to achieve full protection.
