San Francisco, September 22 (Business Today) -- OpenAI has expanded its GPT-6 model family with GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, two lower-cost models positioned below the flagship GPT-6 Astra and aimed at making advanced AI more affordable for everyday work and high-volume use. GPT-6 Sol is priced at 2 dollars per million input tokens and 10 dollars per million output tokens, while Luna costs 0.10 dollars for input and 0.50 dollars for output per million tokens, both roughly half the promotional prices of their GPT-5.6 predecessors.
OpenAI attributed the reductions to improvements in caching and inference, and said the new rates are permanent rather than promotional. Sol targets demanding professional work, coding and agentic workflows, while Luna handles efficient, repeatable and high-volume tasks such as information extraction and document summarisation.
In AutomationBench, OpenAI said GPT-6 Sol at high effort outperformed Claude Opus 5 at maximum effort at 9 percent of its cost per task, and scored 60.5 percent on OSWorld 2.0 offline for computer use at about 80 percent lower cost per task. Both models are available through the OpenAI API and in ChatGPT Work and Codex for paid plans, while Free and Go users can access Luna through the desktop app.
