Alphabet's Waymo announced on September 18 that it will launch a fully autonomous commercial robotaxi service in Singapore in 2028, marking its first entry into Southeast Asia. An initial fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will arrive in Singapore in the coming months, with trained autonomous specialists manually driving the vehicles in 2027 to map local roads and adapt the Waymo Driver to monsoon weather patterns.
Fully autonomous public rides via the Waymo app are targeted for 2028, subject to regulatory approvals. Singapore becomes the second confirmed Asian market after Tokyo, following earlier announcements for London, Tokyo and Munich.
Meanwhile, Waymo has begun inviting public riders in Las Vegas, its 15th US commercial market, covering approximately 24 square miles including parts of the Strip. The service primarily uses the newer all-electric Ojai minivan equipped with sixth-generation Waymo Driver hardware, with full public availability expected within one to two months.
Waymo reported more than 100,000 sign-ups of interest in Las Vegas, where it will compete with Amazon's Zoox.
