Recently, continuous heavy rain brought by Typhoon Zitan caused flooding in Ningming County, Longzhou County and other areas of Chongzuo, Guangxi. At 18:40 on August 24, a Liuzhou Fire and Rescue detachment reinforcing Chongzuo received an urgent call for help and, while carrying out a trapped-person transfer mission, headed to Zhaimei Hamlet, Fenghuang Village, Mingjiang Town, Ningming County.
On-site verification found that four residents of one household had been trapped by floodwaters for two days, including an elderly person, a child, a mother who had recently given birth, and a baby only two months old. The baby had a low fever and urgently needed to be transferred for medical care. Rescuers quickly maneuvered a rubber boat close to the family's front door to begin the rescue.
After securing the baby, firefighters returned into the house and, carrying the residents one by one on their backs, escorted the remaining trapped people from the stairway to the rubber boat. Once all the trapped people were safely aboard, rescuers drove the boat toward the safe assembly point. Minutes later, the trapped residents arrived safely.
During this rescue operation, Liuzhou firefighters adopted differentiated rescue methods for special groups such as the elderly, the new mother, and infants and toddlers, doing their utmost to protect the life safety of every trapped resident.
