Beijing, August 24 - China's peak-season purchase of summer grain has entered its height. The latest data released by the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration shows that grain-business entities of all types nationwide have cumulatively purchased more than 90 million tons of wheat, while southern early-season indica rice has come to market in concentrated volumes. Purchases are proceeding in an orderly manner across regions, with overall smooth progress.
A relevant official of the administration said that to protect the interests of grain farmers, since August, state authorities have successively launched minimum-purchase-price implementation plans for early indica rice in Jiangxi and Hunan, and for wheat in Henan and Anhui, giving play to the policy's floor-support role and stabilizing market expectations.
Next, the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration will combine market-oriented purchases with policy-based purchasing and storage, keep tracking weather changes such as rainfall, guide relevant provinces to strengthen drying and storage, optimize purchase arrangements, and help farmers reduce post-harvest losses. At the same time, it will deepen grain production-marketing cooperation and farm-enterprise matching to ensure farmers can sell their grain smoothly and promote stable market operation.
