On August 15, 2026, Yiwu Selection — the brand aggregation initiative championed by the Yiwu government to elevate small commodity merchants from OEM manufacturers to global brand owners — opened its 10th overseas store in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The opening day saw customers queuing around two blocks from the storefront, a powerful signal that the "Made in Yiwu" brand is gaining genuine traction among international consumers.

The Yiwu Selection concept addresses a long-standing structural challenge: individual Yiwu merchants have historically lacked the resources to build overseas brand recognition or absorb the costs of international retail expansion. The government's solution was elegant: aggregate multiple Yiwu brands under one retail concept, with the collective brand identity of Yiwu providing the credibility that individual merchants could never achieve alone.

The Buenos Aires store, located in a prime commercial district, features a curated selection of products spanning traditional Chinese silk scarves, trending pop culture IPs, luggage and bags, and daily-use personal care products. The grand opening followed the global debut store in January 2025, which achieved 503 containers of orders within five hours of opening — a figure that has since become a benchmark for Yiwu's branded export ambitions.

Liu Min, Secretary-General of the Yiwu Brand Development Promotion Association, who has spent 20 years in the city, noted that the journey from OEM to branded retail has been a collective transformation. "Government policy has encouraged trademark registration, patent applications, and overseas IP layout," she explained. "The brand aggregation model turns scattered individual brands into a unified force, achieving the shift from 'lone warriors' to 'group combat.'"
