China Mobile has formally elevated intelligent services to a core business, adopting an "AI-first" strategy, the company disclosed at its mid-year performance briefing on August 13.
The telecom carrier's AI data center revenue grew more than fourfold year on year in the first half of 2026, while AI computing service revenue saw multi-fold growth. The company is deploying its Jiutian large model across consumer and enterprise applications.
China Mobile's move reflects a broader trend among Chinese tech and telecom giants to capitalize on AI-driven demand for computing power, data centers, and cloud services. The company is positioning itself as a key infrastructure provider for the AI era.
The strong growth in AI computing services underscores how the commercialization of large models is translating into tangible revenue for cloud and data center operators.
