As Yiwu marks 20 years since the "Yiwu development experience" was first proposed, inspection and certification services are playing a growing but often invisible role in helping Chinese small commodities reach overseas markets, according to a China Certification and Inspection Group (CCIC) report on August 14.
In one case, a Yiwu-based smart projection lamp manufacturer with more than 40 patents previously struggled to win large European orders due to quality management and market access certification gaps. After receiving targeted support from the China Quality Certification Center, the company raised its mean time between failures from 500 hours to over 2,000 hours and cut factory defect rates below 0.4 percent.
The product obtained multiple international market access certifications and became a cross-border e-commerce bestseller. CCIC also helped a thermal transfer printer maker pass CB, CE, Energy Star, and CRA certifications in one go, reducing both certification time and costs.
For small commodity exporters, speed matters. CCIC's Jinhua branch recently issued a China-Peru free trade certificate for a batch of Christmas goods within a tight deadline, ensuring the goods cleared customs on time.
