China sold 1.561 million new energy vehicles in July 2026, up 23.7 percent from a year earlier, according to CAAM data released on August 12. NEV production reached 1.576 million units, rising 26.8 percent year on year.
The NEV share of total new vehicle sales reached 60.4 percent in July, the first time the monthly figure has exceeded 60 percent. For the first seven months, cumulative NEV sales accounted for 51.2 percent of total vehicle sales.
Export performance was particularly strong. Total vehicle exports exceeded 1 million units for the second consecutive month, reaching 1.043 million and jumping 81.3 percent year on year. NEV exports surged 150 percent to 553,000 units, accounting for more than half of total vehicle exports for two straight months.
Industry analysts expect the export momentum to continue, with full-year NEV exports potentially surpassing 4 million units. The strong data helped lift related sector stocks, with the China Securities New Energy Vehicle Industry Index rising more than 1 percent on August 14.
