Tencent Holdings revealed in its earnings report that the company is significantly increasing computing power procurement at the infrastructure layer, as it builds an AI-enabled Tencent across three strategic layers: intelligence, application, and infrastructure.
At the intelligence layer, the formal version of Hy3 provides users with a widely accessible and cost-effective model. At the application layer, AI office productivity service WorkBuddy and AI programming tool CodeBuddy have achieved breakthrough user growth.
WorkBuddy, Tencent's AI workplace assistant, reached 20.97 million monthly visits in June, surpassing ByteDance's Trae and Alibaba's QoderWork to become China's leading AI office product. Analysts attribute its success to deep integration with WeChat, which constitutes a core competitive barrier.
The substantial increase in computing power procurement aims to convert application and model usage into revenue. As a bellwether internet giant, Tencent's move has industry-wide significance, indicating that AI office and programming tools are entering a commercialization acceleration phase.
However, market observers note that whether large-scale computing power investment can be effectively transformed into sustainable revenue remains a key focus. The challenge of generating incremental AI value while maintaining existing advantages will test Tencent's strategic execution capabilities.
