Leapmotor began presales for its A05 model on August 11, targeting the affordable urban EV segment with surprisingly advanced technology at a starting price of 63,900 yuan (approximately US$9,475).
The A05 is a hatchback sibling to Leapmotor's B03X crossover and will be sold overseas as the Leapmotor B03. Upper trims combine a 52 kWh LFP battery delivering 510 km of CLTC range, and notably feature a LiDAR-based driver-assistance system - a technology still rare in vehicles priced around the 100,000-yuan mark.
The vehicle measures 4,200 mm in length with a 2,605 mm wheelbase. Interior specifications include an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, 14.6-inch center display, Snapdragon 8155 or 8295 chips depending on trim, heated and ventilated front seats on the top trim, and fold-flat front seats that can create two beds.
Additional features include 33 storage spaces, a 474-liter trunk expanding to 1,308 liters with rear seats folded, and a 12-speaker audio system. The higher-power version uses a "seven-in-one" electric drive system.
Leapmotor continues to gain momentum after Stellantis invested 1.5 billion euros in the company, helping expand its international distribution and product reach. The A05 demonstrates how Chinese automakers are redefining budget-car expectations with premium-style features.
