SAIC's MG brand says first-month deliveries of its new MG 7 electric sedan reached 14,577 units — more than double the 7,058 first-month record set by the Xiaomi SU7 and ahead of the Tesla Model 3, making it the second-best-selling pure electric sedan in its debut month regardless of brand tenure.
The strong launch lifted the wider MG new energy lineup: in September the MG brand sold 84,176 new energy vehicles globally, including 30,292 pure electrics in China, entering the top tier of China's NEV startups rankings. The MG4 family sold 16,969 units in September and remained the best-selling NEV compact car, with its 200,000th unit rolling off the line one year after launch.
Industry commentators say the result shows that established carmakers with manufacturing depth can still produce "internet-famous" hits in China's intensely competitive NEV market, traditionally dominated by startup brands backed by tech ecosystems.
