According to Beijing Daily, an alliance of Yau Shing-Yuen Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratories was established at Tsinghua University on October 11.
The alliance will launch joint research programs targeting mathematics-specialized large models, AI-assisted mathematical formalization and conjecture discovery, explainable artificial intelligence, and intelligent computing in interdisciplinary fields, pushing deeper integration of AI and mathematics.
The move reflects a broader trend in Chinese AI research toward grounding models in rigorous mathematical foundations. Formalization and automated theorem proving are long-standing challenges for AI systems, and are considered essential to improving the reliability and verifiability of large models in scientific and engineering applications.
