The new high-level station building of the railway Yiwu station officially entered service on October 9, drawing national attention as Yiwu featured prominently in central and provincial media coverage during the October 5-11 week, according to a roundup published by the Yiwu Media Convergence Center.
CCTV's flagship News Simulcast program reported the station building's opening, while People's Daily ran stories on both the facility and Zhejiang Yiwu's efforts to strengthen its grassroots emergency management system and explore effective paths for county-level safety governance.
During the National Day holiday, Yiwu's position as the world's largest wholesale market drew visitor-customers in droves. CCTV-4, CCTV Finance Channel, and CGTN all highlighted Yiwu's "stocking-up tourism" trend, in which travelers dragged suitcases through the market to shop, and the China Import Commodity City became a popular holiday destination. Coverage also focused on foreign entrepreneurs experiencing "Chinese warmth" as Yiwu's foreign-investment registration reforms accelerated.
Xinhua reported that the Yiwu market entered its peak season for autumn and winter hat sales, while Zhejiang Daily highlighted how holiday rail operations at the Yiwu port kept Zhejiang goods flowing to Asia and Europe via China-Europe freight trains.
The clustering of national media coverage underscores Yiwu's rising profile as both a trade hub and a tourism destination, with market traffic increasingly converted into cultural and tourism consumption.
