At a summit in Singapore, BYD vice president Stella Li stated BYD's next global strategic goal: to become the world's largest automobile manufacturer within five years, catching up with and surpassing Toyota and Volkswagen. BYD will stick to its going-global strategy and continue exploring markets in Europe, Central America, South America, Asia and Oceania.
Li said BYD has achieved leadership in energy storage, photovoltaics, batteries and other fields, and that battery technology is one of its core competitiveness — the company's advantage is not limited to the automotive sector alone. The remarks come as BYD's overseas sales momentum accelerates, with September overseas sales reaching 180,000 units, nearly 40% of total volume.
Industry observers note the target underscores Chinese automakers' shifting role from price-driven exporters to global full-chain competitors, with electrification and supply-chain integration — especially battery and energy-storage synergies — forming the backbone of the challenge to the long-standing Japanese-German duopoly.
