Chinese artificial intelligence models and domestic computing power are increasingly "going in both directions," with leading models now running on domestically produced chips at scale, according to a CCTV report in late August 2026.
The report noted that Zhipu AI's anonymous model saw all of its test traffic served by domestic chips, while within one day of the release of Moonshot's Kimi K3, multiple domestic computing platforms completed adaptation and deployment. This mutual support loop is accelerating as domestic chip supply expands.
Analysts cited a "triple moat" for China's domestic computing chain: lower cost, more controllable supply and faster model-adaptation services. Falling inference costs are driving more Chinese models to deploy on domestic infrastructure, creating a virtuous cycle between the country's computing hardware and its booming open-source model ecosystem.
