Recently, the story of an 86-year-old grandfather in Chongqing who volunteered to donate a kidney to save his grandson has drawn wide attention. The grandson has long been on dialysis for uremia but had been unable to find a suitable kidney source. The daughter-in-law also suffers from kidney disease, and the family's income relies solely on the son's wages.
Seeing his grandson tormented by illness, the grandfather offered his own kidney. He said the boy was raised by his own hands and that he does not fear the surgical risk. Doctors note that transplants between relatives have higher compatibility, but the surgical risk for an advanced-age donor cannot be ignored. The operation has since been completed successfully.
