Chinese and European negotiators have reached agreement on a number of points in continuing consultations over new energy vehicle trade, easing the risk of a broader trade friction flare-up.
On plug-in hybrid vehicles, the European side confirmed it will respect three basic principles in any measures taken: factual grounds, non-discrimination and compliance with WTO rules. No measure will be specifically targeted at Chinese products. On battery electric vehicles, the EU said it will continue to advance the relevant procedures concerning enterprise price undertakings.
The consultation results provide a more stable and predictable environment for Chinese automakers exporting to Europe. Observers noted the outcome offers a constructive path after a period of heightened tension over EU trade defense measures.
Separately, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice on further promoting NEV exports, requiring enterprises to strengthen compliance with target market technical standards, improve product consistency management, and step up work on overseas after-sales networks and spare parts supply.
Industry analysts said the consultation outcome, combined with steady export volume growth, gives exporters room to plan capacity and product strategy with greater clarity.
